Crosswell Nes Lubigate is the original wielder of the Astral Swords and the master of both Iska and Jhin. He is later revealed to be a distant relative of the Grand Witch Nebulis. He used to be a leader of the Saint Disciples but retired.
Appearance[]
Crosswell is a tall man with long black hair that covers his left eye.
Personality[]
Crosswell is usually expressionless and tight-lipped, but also very blunt with others.
History[]
Back when he was the leader of the Saint Disciples, Crosswell scouted boys and girls all over the Empire to find and train a worthy successor. Nearly half of the candidates dropped out after a day of training, and after five years, the only ones remaining were Iska and Jhin.[1]
He brought Iska all over the continent, journeying from city to city and imparting him with knowledge of the world.[2] After bestowing Iska his swords, he left one day and hasn't been seen ever since.
Synopsis[]
Volume 10[]
Deciding it's time for Iska to learn about the Astral Swords, the Emperor Yunmelngen summoned Croswell back to the capital and informed him of the recent events. When Unit 907 and Sisbell arrived, he told them to meet the Emperor while he left to deal with his angriest relative, Nebulis, who has awoken again and is heading towards the Empire.
Volume 11[]
He intercepts Nebulis at the border, and prepares to fight against her.
Volume 12[]
Crosswell talks to Nebulis, and he reflects about how he should've passed his knowledge and mission to their younger generations instead of keeping everything to himself. He said he was going to change the Empire, but this was just a pipe dream and the war only got worse. The two then begin fighting, and Crosswell unveils a lesser version of the black astral sword.
After fighting for a while, the Emperor Yunmelngen suddenly teleports both of them to Elletear Lou Nebulis IX, and they don't waste any time to attack her, as they know what kind of calamity lies inside of her.
Abilities[]
- Master Swordsmanship: As the strongest Imperial swordsman and the former head of the Saint Disciples, his abilities with the sword are considered unparalleled. The Eight Great Apostles held his abilities in the highest regard, which is why they were interested in his successor, Iska.
- Longevity: Like Eve Sophi Nebulis and Emperor Yunmelngen, Crosswell has lived for 100 years since the birth of Astral Mages and still retains his prime appearance.

Relationships[]
Iska was the last candidate that Crosswell brought along and the one who eventually succeeded him. When he passed on his swords to Iska, he told him not to let go of them, as they were the only thing capable of restoring the world.
He once told Iska that he was his most hopeless student since he was his last candidate. But in reality, it was because Iska resembled him the most. That's why Crosswell didn't have high expectations of him, alluding to the fact that he wasn't capable of stopping the hundred-year war.[1]
He later reunite with Iska who tells him to take Sisbell and get to the capital since Nebulis is awoken again.
Jhin was Crosswell's other student. Since Crosswell was a swordsman, he couldn't teach Jhin much about guns other than the fundamentals. Jhin would have to learn through his own hard work.[3]
Crosswell is friends with Yunmelngen.
Nebulis is a distant relative of Crosswell's. Back before the discovery of Astral Energy, when he first moved to the capital to work, he took residence at her house. They later fought against each other for 100 years of years. In Volume 10, Crosswell sensed Nebulis' presence when she woke up from her slumber again.
According to Jhin, the ones that Crosswell was most wary of weren't the Nebulis Sovereignty or the Astral Mages, but the eight apostles themselves.[4] In fact, it seems that Croswell had hid the "secrets of the planet" from them.[5]

- The Nes Lubigate in his name is an anagram for Nebulis, making his real name Crosswell Gate Nebulis.
