The Eight Great Apostles refers to eight supreme leaders who command the Imperial Senate, effectively serving as the Empire's legislative body. They are revealed to be the masterminds responsible for this 100 years pointless war. Due to their actions, they were considered one of the series' main antagonists.

Personality[]

The eight apostles have shown the radical Imperialist ideology that all witches should be exterminated from the planet.[1]

The apostles are very corrupted, treacherous, twisted, self-serving, cunning, and manipulative, having no loyalties to anyone but themselves. They don't care about the Imperial soldiers, who they view as pawns in doing their dirty work, and are more than willing to sacrifice them without a second thought. They have also shown to be power-hungry, as they usurped control of the Empire and tried to monopolize Astral Energy for themselves. They attempted to kill the previous Emperor and even orchestrated the persecution of astral mages a hundred years ago by framing them with lies and falsehoods, as well as covering up their crimes.

They are also paranoia when they fear the truth of their crimes would be uncovered. They intend to kill those who discovered the Apostles is the culprits of the 100 years war such as attempting to kill the 907th unit and Sisbell Lou Nebulis IX.

Ironically, their lust for the Astral Power has led the Apostles to their own downfalls, Luclezeus was killed by the 907th while the 7 remaining Apostles were killed by Elletear.

History[]

They were once known as the Eight Elders, the advisors to the then emperor — Emperor Harkenweltz. Each of them excelled at their respective field, like biology or engineering. While looking for an alternative source of energy, they found something called Astral Energy through historical records. Since the energy was located deep within the planet, they convinced the Emperor to dig for it because it would greatly advance the Empire.

However, they secretly calculated that unearthing the energy would cause an enormous explosion that would kill everyone at the mine and in the surrounding area, including the emperor and the prince so that they could rule the Empire. But when the energy was discovered, an explosion of light occurred instead, knocking everyone out but not killing them. The Elders soon discovered that the energy could possess people and give them supernatural abilities.

Because the explosion left the Emperor unable to rule, the eight took advantage of this and began running the government. They wanted to eliminate anybody possessed by astral energy, but still desired the energy for themselves. They came up with the derogatory terms witch and sorcerer, and started sending out false reports about the crimes committed by these witches and sorcerers. As a result, the police became extremely vigilant of them, and they became outcasts. Soon, these so-called witches and sorcerers were arrested, often for false reasons, and thus the persecution began.

Synopsis[]

Volume 1[]

Even though Iska received a life sentence for treason, the eight apostles were able to release him in a year under the condition he stops the Ice Calamity Witch, who broke through the front lines and was approaching the Empire.

A few days later, they praised Iska for his outstanding job in stopping the Ice Calamity Witch, and offered him the chance to being reinstated as one of the Saint Disciples if he captured her next time, something he might want to consider if he wants an audience with the emperor.

After Iska defeats the witch founder Nebulis, the apostles were commenting amongst themselves that this is exactly what they hoped for.

Volume 2[]

When another Vortex appeared, the Apostles summoned Risya to the assembly hall and ordered her to get Iska to join the mission for the vortex.

Volume 3[]

After Iska was kidnapped by the Ice Calamity Witch, the Apostles told Risya to just focus on their secret op instead. But Risya manages to convince them by revealing her plans to free Salinger, who was also where Iska was taken to, and could become an asset if on their side.

Volume 4[]

Their benefactor gives them information about a vulnerable purebred heading towards the independent nation of Alsamira, so they sent the Witch Hunter Object after her. However, they didn't expect Iska to foil their plans. Despite this setback, they just took note to be wary of him and proceeded to the next stage of their plan.

Volume 10[]

As Sisbell approached the capital, the truth the Apostles hid was closer to being exposed, so Luclezeus set out to kill her and her escorts. However, he was killed by Unit 907 during the battle, as they freed the Astral Spirit that powered his cybernetic body. Before disappearing, he warns them that without the Apostles, there will be no one to stop the world's last witch.

Volume 12[]

During the invasion of the Empire, the remaining Great Apostles were killed by Subject E as revenge for ordering her execution.

Relationships[]

Elletear was the Eight Great Apostles' former ally and their killer. Even though the Apostles wished for the extermination of all astral mages, they didn't mind working with one of them if their goals aligned. The two parties seemed to enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship, as Elletear leaked valuable information to them while they aided her in her revenge against the royal family. That was until they tried to dispose of her, as she became dangerous due to retaining her ego even after fusing with the Great Planetary Calamity. She survived and killed the seven remaining Apostles as revenge.

The Apostles were interested in Kelvina's research, and they secretly released her from prison to continue her experiments for their own twisted schemes.

The Eight Great Apostles pardoned Iska in exchange for capturing the Ice Calamity Witch, as they were sure of his skills. However, he soon proved to be a threat to their schemes, as he was slowly learning the truth that the Apostles covered it up, earning the boy and his associates a target on their backs. The apostle Luclezeus was sent to kill them to prevent them from revealing the truth, but he was killed by Unit 907.

While the third princess was in Alsamira, the Apostles sent the Witch Hunter Object to capture her, as they wanted a purebred test subject for Kelvina. However, the mech was destroyed by the combined efforts of Iska and Alice.

Due to her powers of revealing truths, Sisbell became a serious threat to the Apostles' twisted schemes when she entered the Imperial capital, as she could use her astral powers to uncover the truth of the Eight Great Apostles' role as the true culprits for the war a century ago. One of the Apostles, Luclezeus, went out to eliminate them but was killed by them. As a result, Sisbell was able to discover what truly happened back then and show it to Unit 907, Risya, Emperor Yunmelngen and everyone who is present in order to forevermore ruining the Eight Great Apostles' reputations.
