"Oh, I can’t tell you that...It’s something I’ve spent years building up. I can’t reveal my tricks."
— Elletear, Volume 4 Intermission 1
Elletear Lou Nebulis IX (イリーティア, Irītia), also known as Subject E, is the first princess of the Nebulis Sovereignty who betrayed her family and wishes to destroy her country after becoming disillusioned of it. She is also the older sister of both Aliceliese Lou Nebulis IX and Sisbell Lou Nebulis IX. Due to her actions, she is one of the main antagonists, alongside the Eight Great Apostles.
Appearance[]
Elletear is a beautiful young woman who is taller and more voluptuous than Alice, with knee-length green hair, bangs that hang on either side, and hair strands that reach her chest. In fact, she's so beautiful that even women hold their breath at her sight.[1]
She has heterochromia on her eyes. Her left eye is golden, while her right eye is green (teal in the anime).
Elletear wears a black dress that fairly exposes her body, a white fur scarf draped around her arms that is stuffed into her white elbow gloves, black stockings, and black high heels.
After her mutation finished, she began wearing a black sleeveless maiden dress and veil, while also tying up her hair. She also wears black elbow sleeves and fingerless gloves. As "Subject E", she becomes a jet-black monster with hundreds of beads of light in her semitransparent body, making her look as if the night itself had taken a human form. She has no eyes, mouth, or nose in this form.[2]
Personality[]
Elletear is a mature and dignified woman with an easy-going personality, allowing her to speak easily to anybody regardless of social standing. This is what allowed her to win over the masses, making her a strong contender for the throne. Likewise, Alice has stated that talking to Elletear was fun because she was cheerful and lively.[3] She can be very teasing with the people close to her, mainly her sisters, sinisterly so at times. She's also quite bold and seductive when she wants to be, as she tried to win Iska over by inviting him to sleep together in her bedroom.
However, hidden beneath her exterior is a manipulative, selfish, and twisted persona stemming from the rejection and belittlement she suffered at the hands of her mother and the people around her. She became disillusioned with the Sovereignty, a paradise that was supposed to welcome all astral mages regardless of their differences but instead only favored the strong. As a result of this, Elletear developed a self-deprecating attitude whenever she talks about her own astral power.
She is also very ambitious, treacherous, and cunning, working with like-minded people such as Talisman and even the Eight Great Apostles to achieve her goals while maintaining a spotless record by diverting suspicion away from herself. Elletear is very manipulative, easily fooling Lord Mask into doing her dirty work by taking advantage of the Zoa family's zero-intolerance towards the Empire, and the fact that he would be removing two political opponents.
She used to be very passionate about the state of her country, desiring to change it at all costs, but that changed when she realized that the Sovereignty would never accept people like her. To create a "true paradise" and rule it as queen, Elletear decided to destroy her own country to rebuild it, beginning with the destabilization of her mother's rule and political power. However, the fall of the Sovereignty was an entirely different matter from the sacrifice of its people[4], so she doesn't want more victims than necessary.
She is proven to be merciless to those who dare to cross her, as she easily killed the Eight Great Apostles and defeated the Zoa and Hydra families.
Abilities[]
- Voice: Elletear's Astral Power, which allows her to mimic the voice of anyone she has heard in the past. Because of this ability, she was able to avoid detection by framing other people for her crimes, like she did with Lord Mask.
- Intelligence: Elletear is intelligent in tactics and strategies. She leaked Sisbell's location to both Lord Mask and the Eight Great Apostles. In addition, she lured Iska, Alice, and their friends into a trap at the Royal Mansion.
- Master Manipulator: She is proficient at manipulating and plotting behind the scenes. Her manipulation is even more effective, considering that her astral power allows her to impersonate anyone (though only in voice).
- Divine Star Mutation: After being experimented on by Kelvina Sofita Elmos, Elletear artificially reached unification with the Great Planetary Calamity, a calamity similar to an astral spirit. She can communicate with it and wake it up, incapacitating any astral mage due to their natural incompatibility. The stronger their astral power, the weaker they become.[5]
- Song: The evolved form of her "Voice" astral power. Elletear can sing the Planet's Requiem, which renders anyone who listens to it comatose, affecting both humans and astral mages alike.
- Supernatural Regeneration: Due to no longer being human, Elletear can regenerate beyond the normal, as her whole body is made up of black mist. Even when she was obliterated by a powerful beam of pure astral energy, equivalent to that of a Vortex, she was able to reform because the amount of energy wasn't nearly enough to damage her.[5]
- Eidos Summon: Elletear can summon multiple Eidos (corrupted astral spirits) to fight for her. They are incredibly tough opponents that require both the Empire and the Sovereignty to fight together.
Trivia[]
- Elletear's Astral Crest is around her throat.[6]
- It's unclear if it's an animation error or not, but the anime depicts a young Elletear without heterochromia.[7]
- After her mutation, she no longer needs to fulfill her basic biological needs. She hasn't eaten in months or drunk water in a week, and has stopped breathing altogether.[2]
