The Heavenly Empire, or the Empire for short, is the largest nation in the world. Because of their opposing views about astral mages, the Empire is at war with the Nebulis Sovereignty, a safe haven for all astral mages.
Overview[]
The Empire is also known as the Mechanical Utopia, an epithet that comes from the fact that it's a technologically advanced country. It has the greatest military in the world, which is backed by its expertise in weapons development.
The Empire's main military force against the Sovereignty is the Special Defense for Humankind, which specializes in dealing with the threat of Astral Mages.
History[]
The Empire was known for its large deposits of iron ore and rare metals, which propelled the creation of advanced machinery. The country developed further with these new inventions, as they could create anything with the resources at their disposal. This led to a greater demand for workers in the Empire, so they gathered youths from all over the world. To accommodate the waves of migrant workers, the Empire began building flimsy houses that could be built overnight, creating slum-like neighborhoods. By this point, about 40% of the population were lower-class workers.[1]
A century ago, the Empire was a nation that prospered at the height of their industrial revolution, using a military force even greater than its present army to dominate the world. It took over other nations, giving rise to its current glory.[2] For this reason, smaller nations like Alcatroz, who resisted the Empire, willingly submitted to the Nebulis Sovereignty when it was formed.
But one day they came into contact with the Secret of the Celestial Body. The Geological Survey Unit had found the thing in question — an immeasurable energy called “astral energy” surging up from the depths of the planet. Anyone with prolonged contact with it formed a mark somewhere on their body, obtaining supernatural powers and becoming feared by the regular people. Thus, the males and females that had the mark were labeled as sorcerers and witches respectively. This was the birth of the Astral Mages.
It wasn't long before the population began to oppress those with astral powers, and naturally, the Astral Mages began to despise the Empire and revolted. The girl with the strongest astral power turned the capital into a sea of flames and founded a kingdom to be the paradise of mages, the Nebulis Sovereignty. That girl was the Grand Witch Nebulis.
The Empire, whose goal is to eradicate all astral mages from the planet, and the Nebulis Sovereignty, who seek the destruction of the Empire, waged war. The war between the two lasted for a century and still rages on even today.
