"This country is no paradise. All its fake dreams will end here…and the world will be born anew."
— Johaim, Volume 6 Epilogue 2
Johaim Leo Armadel was the first seat of the Saint Disciples before betraying his colleagues. He is also revealed to be Elletear's knight.
Appearance[]
Johaim is a tall, redheaded swordsman who wears a personalized battle coat integrated with armor.
Personality[]
Like Elletear, Johaim believes that the current Sovereignty is not a paradise, as weak people like them are shunned and mocked. He is also a traitor who betrayed his fellow Saint Disciples to rejoin his true master, Elletear.
History[]
Johaim was born as an Astral Mage from the Nebulis Sovereignty; but when he tried to join the Astral Corps, he was rejected because of his weak astral power. He would later meet Elletear Lou Nebulis IX, the first princess of the Sovereignty, who similarly faced rejection because she was weak.
Empathizing with each other, the two secretly betrayed their nation and allied themselves with the Heavenly Empire. Together, they vowed to destroy not only the Sovereignty, which discriminated against weak astral mages, but also the Empire, which discriminated against all astral mages.
While Elletear remained in their homeland, Johaim joined the Empire and eventually became the first seat of the Saint Disciples. Though normally stationed at the castle tower, guarding the Emperor, he can leave his post under extremely special circumstances.
Synopsis[]
Volume 5[]
Shortly before the mission to capture the Queen of the Sovereignty, the Eight Great Apostles requested his participation alongside several of his fellow Saint Disciples.
Volume 6[]
At the last meeting between the Saint Disciples, Johaim makes it clear that the queen is his target. When the Eight Great Apostles were concerned about the Ice Calamity Witch being by the queen's side, Johaim reassures them that she isn't there, declaring with certainty that she was currently not at the palace.[1]
Volume 7[]
During the attack on the royal palace, Johaim swiftly defeats the queen's elite guards and confronts Millavair. As they fight, he reveals personal information about her that only people close to her or from the Sovereignty would know about and tells her that becoming queen has dulled her. When he counters her secret move in advance, Millavair finally acknowledges that there is a traitor in the Sovereignty.
Due to his perfect balance between strength and agility, Johaim cuts through the queen's wind barrier and injures her, causing Millavair to become more vicious and stop holding back. She then creates a wind scythe that once cut an Imperial bomber in half, something too inhumane to be used on a person, but Johaim survives with minimal damage. When she demands to know why he was still alive, Johaim replies that it's because he's himself.[2]
Even against Millavair's raging whirlwinds, Johaim comes out unscathed and simply walks past them. He then reveals that he's aware that her winds avoid astral energy as they push forward. The reason he's been surviving all this time is because Millavair's astral power was instructed to avoid astral mages in case her people came into the room.[2] Her downfall was not knowing that Johaim himself was an astral mage, and so he cuts her from her arm up to her shoulder.
As he prepares to strike again, Elletear appears and takes the blow for her mother. The sight of her daughter's bloodied state causes Millavair to faint in shock. When Alice arrives and sees this, she attempts to attack him out of anger but stops when Johaim picks up Elletear's body to be used as a shield. He then uses Elletear's hand to open a secret corridor leading to the exterior, which only reacts to a descendant of the Founder, and successfully escapes with a purebred prisoner.
Volume 12[]
After killing the Eight Great Apostles, Elletear confirms her kills with Johaim. He later reappears to keep Iska from teaming up with Alice to attack Elletear. Ultimately, he teleports away with Elletear to the planet's core.
Abilities[]
- High Speed: Because Johaim defeated the queen's strongest guards without even letting them alert her, Millavair suspected that he was capable of operating at divine speeds.[3]
- Swordsmanship: Johaim's insane speed and proficiency with the sword are what earned him the title of Flash Knight. Millavair barely managed to register a silver flash, which happened instantly and faster than anyone could blink, before realizing that the metallic door that protected the throne was cut into pieces.[3]
Equipment[]
- Longsword
Relationships[]
- Elletear Lou Nebulis IX: Elletear is Johaim's master and the only person he serves, showing an unyielding loyalty towards her. The two share the goal of destroying the current Sovereignty to create a "true paradise" for all astral mages, even the weak. Even though Elletear is highly manipulative, Johaim's loyalty isn't misplaced, as she deeply trusts him and shows genuine emotions towards him.
- Millavair Lou Nebulis VIII: Although Johaim didn't know her personally, he held a deep grudge towards her. When she said she would protect this paradise for all astral mages, Johaim mocked her, asking "For all mages? Is that really true?"[3]
