Kissing Zoa Nebulis IX is the precious child of the Zoa family and their candidate for queen.
Appearance[]
Kissing is a pretty young girl with long black hair who wears a fancy dress with rose decorations, giving her the appearance of a doll. She used to wear a blindfold to hide her Astral Crest, but no longer hides it after the Heavenly Empire attacked the royal palace. She also wears a hair black bow.
Personality[]
When she first appeared, she was emotionless, speaking in a monotone voice just like a puppet. She also seemed to have a speech disorder, as she wasn't able to voice her thoughts without having breaks in between. But despite not speaking a lot, she warned her allies to duck from her thorns, showing that she cares about her people.
As a result of On's fiendish training, Kissing became predisposed towards suicidal tactics, being able to execute them without hesitation. When she detonated the Imperial missile above her and Iska, it would've taken only a single mistake to kill them both, yet she carried it out as if she wouldn't fail. When asked about who trained her in this despicable way, Kissing showed perhaps the most emotions in their entire encounter, becoming agitated and using her powers indiscriminately, unlike the restraint shown before.
History[]
Kissing was born in the Zoa family, one of the three royal families of the Nebulis Sovereignty. Known for their extreme hatred towards the Empire, the Zoa were willing to make any and all sacrifices if it meant wiping out their mortal enemy. Alice didn't know much about Kissing's power since it was kept secret, but she heard rumors about how strong she was after defeating a royal guard.
Synopsis[]
Volume 2[]
When a new vortex was discovered, Kissing left alongside On to secure it. At the site, Kissing confronted Iska when the latter broke into the Sovereignty's camp in order to rescue his captain. After fighting for a while, Iska eventually knocks out Kissing, but before he can take her into custody, On appears to retrieve her.
Volume 7[]
During the Imperial raid on the Sovereignty's royal palace, Kissing finds Mei at the Moon Spire and the two fight. She corners Mei with her thorns, but the Saint Disciple responds by spraying shards of glass at Kissing, causing the thorns to turn back and protect Kissing instead.
Mei then orders her subordinates to fire at Kissing, but she demonstrates an abnormal level of precision by sniping every single bullet with her thorns. This leads Mei to use a weapon with an even higher fire rate and bury Kissing under rubble. She survives this though, albeit very injured, and realizes what the true nature of war is, and it's not something she likes. [1]
The Astral Crest in Kissing's eyes then begins to glow and she proceeds to summon hundreds of thousands of thorns, enough to wipe out an entire airship and possibly even the Moon Spire. However, before she and Mei could fight again, the two were suddenly interrupted by Growley's Vice beasts, who were chasing after Nameless. Kissing plans to eliminate both of them on her own, but before she can, she gets an incoming call from On telling her to return, as the first princess has been killed.
Volume 12[]
The Zoa invade the Empire, but there's no response, no one to intercept them. They eventually find the Imperial soldiers frozen in place as if they were in a coma. Kissing is very afraid because she can see something that no one else does — Elletear in her monstrous form, who then shows herself to everyone present. When the first princess revealed her true intentions, On orders Kissing to erase Elletear with her thorns, but she somehow reappears and puts everyone in a coma except Kissing.
The Emperor eventually teleports everyone, including Iska and Nebulis, to where Elletear and the comatose people are, and they cause her to retreat. Kissing is apprehended by the surviving forces, and in her room, she cries because of the trauma and loneliness. She escapes afterward and goes on a rampage at the central base, drawing the attention of Iska. They fought once again and she lost in their rematch, but she had expected this and was just testing him. Kissing has thought about what to do and she will serve under Iska, but in exchange, they will kill Elletear.
Volume 13[]
When Alice tries to cook for Iska, Kissing escapes Mei's supervision and steals the omelet in order to get his attention, later spitting it out for being gross. She asks Iska, but he won't kill Elletear, so she bows and tries again. Rin is shocked by Kissing for bringing shame to the royal family, but she asks who is going to suffer from it? The Zoa family lost their upper ranks and soldiers, they are ruined already.
The Emperor informs everyone about the Catalysc Disaster Zone, which is full of barren swamps surrounded by corrupting essence, and they head there to stop the Great Star Calamity. Kissing's unique eyes are able to find a safe path and Iska carries her on his back because it is hard to navigate through the swamps. They reach an oasis, but Kissing doesn't get off Iska's back, annoying Alice.
They are soon attacked by corrupted astral spirits sent by Elletear, causing everyone to split into two groups. Because one of them has high regeneration, it takes the combined efforts of Iska, Kissing, and Mei to defeat it. However, Iska had to convince the two girls to set aside their differences first.
Volume 14[]
Kissing along with both Alice and Mismis soon confronted both Shanorotte Gregory and Mizerhyby Hydra Nebulis IX, attempting to persuade them.
Abilities[]
- Thorns: Kissing possesses a deadly astral power which erases anything pierced by her thorns, in addition, she is able to restore what her thorns erased. Her powers can even affect the fire and the blast of a missile that had just detonated, it isn't just limited to inanimate objects. But despite it being a formidable and terrifying power, Kissing is still growing, and thus her accuracy is lacking. It seems that her power can only interfere with physical matter, as her thorns are not able to erase Growley's Vice Beasts, which are purely made of astral energy.
- Astral Spirit Visualization: As revealed in Volume 12, the astral crest on her eyes allows her to see the form of Astral Spirits within people, and she's horrified of what Elletear has become.
Astral Arts[]
- Dragon of Thorns: Her thorns gather together to form a serpentine "dragon" that erases everything in its path.
Relationships[]
Kissing seems to be emotionally attached to On, as evidenced when she hid behind him when she was introduced to Alice and Rin. In return, On places a huge expectation on the girl's strength as the Zoa family's secret weapon. She was very devastated when Elletear put him in a coma, and it was originally On's warm hands that gave her the courage to stand up against the monstrous Elletear.
She met him during the fight for the Vortex, but she lost in their first encounter. Iska tries to take her but was rescued and escape by On. Following Elletear's betrayal, Kissing confronted Iska again and fight him in their rematch but was defeated once more. After being defeated by Iska again in their rematch, confirming she wasn't mistaken about Iska's strength, Kissing surrendered and decided to work under him in exchange for helping her get revenge against Elletear. Despite their alliance, Iska still won't kill Elletear as Kissing wishes. While heading to the oasis where Elletear is there, Iska carried Kissing when escaping from an unhabited swamp of Astral Spirits. Despite they successfully escape from the swamp, Kissing refused to get off while Alice is being annoyed by the Zoa princess.
Kissing is absolutely terrified of Elletear, who has long become a monster. Because of what she did to On, Kissing's hatred towards Elletear was even stronger than her hatred towards the Empire, as she was willing to work under Iska if it meant taking down Elletear.
Kissing and the third seat of the Saint Disciple, Mei, form a rivalry after the Imperial attack on the Sovereignty's royal palace. Way later, during the battle against a corrupt astral spirit, the two stop fighting and work together to defeat a common enemy.
