Mei (冥) is the third seat of the Saint Disciples.
Appearance[]
Mei has the appearance of a short and tanned girl. Her long hair was messy and the tips of her canine teeth poked out from her mouth, giving her the look of a feline. In the light novel, she wears a military camouflage uniform and goggles on her neck; while she wears tribal-like clothes in the manga.
Personality[]
Mei is a wild and laidback girl who can be seen laughing very often. When addressing others, she often uses nicknames, like "Names" for Nameless and "Jo" for Johaim.[1] She has also shown a disregard for rules, blatantly eating in front of her peers even though food and drinks were prohibited at the Unseen Will (technically an unspoken rule).
Like Nameless, she holds a great deal of hatred towards Astral Mages. Because she grew up on the battlefield, she mistakenly believes that all astral mages are inherently born strong. Her hatred stems from the fact that they look down upon humans for being weak, which Mei and her soldiers had seen on the battlefield. While they struggled to survive, astral mages lived sheltered lives because they were lucky enough to be born with their powers.[2]
History[]
Before her promotion to Saint Disciple, Mei was part of the Fifth Division, a group of Imperial soldiers assigned to an unclaimed territory known as no man's land.[1] She was born surrounded by gunfire and essentially lived on the battlefield, surviving off muddy water and by cutting away the rot from her wounds.[2]
Synopsis[]
Volume 6[]
Mei was among the 7 Saint Disciples who were chosen to be part of the mission to capture the Sovereignty's Queen. They were also required to capture at least two other purebreds and leave the Solar Spire unscathed. When the attack on the palace began, Mei and her subordinates were intercepted by Kissing Zoa Nebulis IX, starting a battle between the two girls.
Volume 7[]
As the two exchanged threats, Mei was forced to cling onto a chandelier above when Kissing's thorns rained down and erased parts of the floor. With no more footing left, it seemed as if Mei would lose to Kissing's thorns; but she overcomes this by kicking the chandelier and spraying glass at Kissing, causing the thorns to turn around and protect Kissing instead.
She then orders her soldiers to fire at Kissing, but the purebred intercepts every single bullet with her thorns; so Mei uses her Ruined King Hurricane, which has an even higher fire rate. The walls are destroyed and Kissing is left buried under rubble. Surviving this, Kissing attempts to go all out against Mei, but the two are suddenly attacked by Growley's Vice beasts.
Mei is soon joined by Nameless, the reason why the Vice beasts appeared there, and learns of Growley's Astral Power. The two Saint Disciples then overhear Kissing's communication device telling her to return, as the first princess has been killed.
Volume 13[]
The Emperor tells everyone about the Katalisk Contaminated Region, so Iska's group heads there to stop the Great Planetary Calamity alongside Risya and Mei. While staying at an oasis there, they are attacked by corrupted astral spirits sent by Elletear, causing everyone to split into two groups. Iska, Kissing, and Mei form their own team, and the girls set aside their differences in order to defeat a tough opponent with high regeneration.
Relationships[]
Out of all the Saint Disciples, Mei seems to be closest to Nameless the most, though he is annoyed by her presence. She often calls him Names and teases him in many ways, like mentioning how he almost lost to the Ice Calamity Witch or inviting him to go out for a bite after their mission.
Mei and Kissing form a rivalry after the Imperial attack on the Sovereignty's royal palace. During the battle against a corrupt astral spirit, the two stop fighting and work together to defeat a common enemy.
Iska was once a Saint Disciple and Mei's colleague. Unlike Nameless, she doesn't hate or consider Iska a traitor for what he did a year ago. Mei accompanied Iska and his group in their mission to stop Elletear and destroy the Great Planetary Calamity as well defeat Johaim for his betrayal.
Johaim and Mei used to be colleagues. Mei called him as "Jo". After the Eight Great Apostles' death however, Mei and the other Saint Disciples were betrayed by Johaim, revealing he was a loyal servant of Elletear.
Abilities[]
- Unique Physical Composition: Mei had been blessed with a peculiar physical composition, as all of her physical abilities are superior to the average human's.
- Superhuman Strength: Mei's arms were as tough as steel, and she could throw an Imperial soldier well over 200 pounds as if he were an empty water bottle. During her fight with Kissing, Mei walked around, jumped, and ran while shouldering a superweapon without any difficulty.
- Superhuman Senses: Mei's senses are able to detect Nameless even when he erases his presence.[3] Her superhuman vision also allows her to pick details that might not have been noticeable otherwise, like one of Kissing's thorns making a hole in a glass corridor.
Equipment[]
- Model 36 — Ruined King Hurricane: A gigantic, electronic-control-type autocannon that can fire 1,000 bullets per second, annihilating any astral mage since no astral power could defend against that; be it flames, wind, lightning, ice, water, or earth. It was made to be lighter but still weighed substantially because it had originally been made for a warship. The weapon is also invisible due to active camouflage and won't become visible until activated.[2]

Trivia[]
- Prior to the Empire's raid on the Nebulis palace, Nameless warned Mei not to do anything foolish because her "flesh in particular is top secret".[3]
