"The Zoa have counseled the Lou—more times than I can count. We pleaded with you to let us attack the Empire. Our demands were denied, and as a result, the Imperial forces drew first blood…"
— Lord Mask, Volume 8 Chapter 1
On Zoa Nebulis is the acting head of the Zoa royal family.
Appearance[]
On is a tall man dressed in a fancy suit with a necktie, black gloves, and a top hat. He is always seen wearing a golden mask over his eyes, which seems to hide an old scar caused by an Imperial firearm.[1]
Personality[]
On is very cunning and sly. He uses various underhanded tactics in combat, but mainly approaching his enemies from behind, as shown when he teleported behind Iska to stab him and again against Jhin.
On is an extremist with a strong hatred for the Heavenly Empire. While he fights for the throne with the other two royal families, he admits he would rather they all work together to destroy the Empire. Jhin notes that On's hatred is so deep that he would never work together with anyone from the Empire nor tolerate anyone from Nebulis who would, not even the royal family.
Synopsis[]
Volume 2[]
After being informed of a possible vortex appearing, Aliceliese and Rin left to meet with the Zoa family since the vortex was sighted near their jurisdiction but no report was given. The two met with On, but he just kept making excuses as to why it wasn't reported to them, causing the two girls to leave since it was going nowhere.
At the site, Alice and Rin were able to confirm that it was a vortex, but On claimed that it was just found recently and that they should leave defending the vortex to him and Kissing. On was later seen welcoming back their undercover agent, who brought with her an Imperial soldier hostage.
After Iska defeated Kissing in order to retrieve his kidnapped captain, On teleported behind him and stabbed him, praising the boy for having an incredibly fast reaction speed. He then retrieved Kissing and kicked Mismis into the vortex, buying him enough time to leave.
Volume 4[]
When Elletear Lou Nebulis IX returned from her campaign, she met On at his mansion and gave him false information regarding the second and third princesses having secret ties to the Empire, prompting On to look into them.
On later encounters the third princess requesting Iska to become her subordinate, which he records and takes it as proof that she betrayed Nebulis, turning a blind eye to whatever explanation Sisbell gives. Since they were in a neutral city, On wanted to capture her while avoiding a confrontation with the soldiers of Empire if possible, but Jhin was serious on fighting him since On was responsible for turning Mismis into an astral mage.
Volume 5[]
When an explosion occurred in the Queen's chambers, On's voice was heard bidding farewell to the House of Lou, making him the prime suspect for the coup. As a result, he was taken for questioning and put under house arrest until suspicions were cleared.
In the Moon Spire, On attends a secret meeting of the Zoa to talk about his situation, but they are not worried since they already found the true culprit and know it's from the Hydra family.
Volume 7[]
When the Empire began their attack on the Nebulis royal palace, On finds Risya In Empire at the midair gardens. He pretends to be interested in how she got there when the doors were closed, but then suddenly teleports behind the Saint Disciple to stab her, failing as she was aware of his attack patterns from his encounter with Mismis Klass.
Risya then switches the conversation to being twenty-two for the fourth time, when invisible threads begin to wrap around his neck, causing him to teleport away. After revealing that she has an Astral Power, On is outraged at the Empire's double standards — condemning astral mages, yet using the very powers they loathe. However, Risya reveals that this wouldn't be possible without the help of the Nebulis royal family, successfully getting On to stay instead of running away, as she had information he would want.
Volume 8[]
After the raid ended and the Empire withdrew, a bloodstained On reports to Aliceliese, now the acting queen, that a sweep has been done and the Moon Spire was free of enemies. When she told him that she was relieved that he was safe, On heavily disagreed — their home was attacked, their people's blood was spilled, several members of their family were missing, and the public was growing restless — so no, they weren't safe.
Later, during a meeting between all of the leaders and ministers of the Nebulis Sovereignty, On blames Queen Millavair Lou Nebulis VIII for allowing the attack to happen and proposes to put a new leader in charge. His proposal was seconded by Talisman, whose family was most likely to win in the next elections. However, to everyone's surprise, On corrects him by saying that he wasn't asking for the Conclave, and voices his intention to revive the Founder Nebulis instead. Despite Millavair's objections, many ministers were welcoming of the proposal.
Volume 12[]
The Zoa reach the Empire and are prepared to burn it down, but there's no response, no one is coming. They eventually find the Imperial soldiers frozen in place as if they were in a coma. The cause is then revealed to be Elletear in her monstrous form, so On offers her to work together to destroy the Empire, but she reveals that she's going to destroy the Sovereignty as well. Because his troops can't hurt Elletear, On orders Kissing to erase Elletear with her thorns, but the first princess somehow reappears and places everyone in a coma except Kissing.
Abilities[]
- Teleportation: On has the astral power to teleport himself and whatever he is in contact with. He mainly uses his ability to teleport behind his opponent and take them by surprise, effectively making him an assassin.
Equipment[]
- Knife: As his astral power is inherently weak, in the sense that it isn't combat-oriented, On carries a knife with him at all times, making up for his lack of offensive power.
Relationships[]
On places a huge expectation on Kissing's strength and believes she could surpass even Alice. But even though she is strong, she is basically On's pawn, whom he uses to do his bidding.
However, Kissing was very devastated when Elletear put him in a coma, and it was originally On's warm hands that gave her the courage to stand up against the monstrous Elletear.
When they first talked, they showed each other superficial politeness and etiquette. Even though she later framed him for the coup, On didn't hold it against her and just accepted the outcome.[2] In fact, when they met again, he even offered her to work together despite what she did. When Elletear revealed her intention to destroy the Sovereignty as well, On stopped seeing her as a daughter of the Lou, but as a monster instead. He attempted to eliminate her but failed as he and his subordinates (except for Kissing) were placed in a coma by the monstrous Elletear.

Trivia[]
- It's a mystery what he hides under his mask, but according to the energy readings of the Witch Hunter Object, On's astral crest is somewhere near his right eye.[3]
