Synopsis

A GLIMPSE INTO THEIR PRIVATE LIVES

Iska's and Alice's day-to-day lives are riddled with troubles: Nene, Mismis, and Risya hold an unwelcome sleepover in Iska's room, while Queen Nebulis IIX is pressuring Alice to attend meetings with potential marriage partners. Escaping these predicaments might come with some unexpected consequences… But more importantly, how did Iska and Alice first meet when they were younger? Take a peek at the everyday adventures of these two rivals in this volume of short stories!

Summary

File 01

After a renegade group of Astral Mages steal a treasure from the museum of Köln, the neutral city accidentally requests help from both the Heavenly Empire and Nebulis Sovereignty. An assemblyman asked his two secretaries to request help, but they each made calls without counseling each other. As a result, Iska and Mismis are sent by one side, while Alice and Rin are sent by the other. Since the city only prepared one vehicle, the four are forced to ride together.

They find the getaway car in the forest outside the city, so they compete to see who can capture the leader first. Iska cuts through the mages' attacks with his black sword, but Alice traps them in ice and steals his "points." She also binds the leader of the thieves with her vines, but Iska knocks her out when she manages to free herself, winning the competition. Unsatisfied, Alice challenges Iska to a duel to settle their draw from last time (Vol.1). However, they are interrupted by reinforcements from Köln. Taking responsibility for the Sovereignty's thieves, Alice concedes the reward money to Iska and leaves.

File 02

Spring arrives, and with it comes the dreaded military bootcamp. Accompanying Unit 907 is Captain Pilie Commonsense, who claims to be Mismis' rival due to both being underperformers. She is always trying to get promoted to Imperial headquarters and is jealous of Mismis' friendship with Risya In Empire, as she can easily achieve her goal with a recommendation from Risya.

At the bootcamp, the instructor pairs up the tallest members of a team with the shortest for a race. Mismis with Jhin, and Pilie with a muscular recruit named Bruno. Pilie laughs, thinking she has the advantage, but the instructor informs them that the short one will be carrying the tall one, so she ends up dead last. Afterward, they must cross straight through a swamp to reach the camp. Pilie is utterly disgusted, but Mismis is unnerved because she used to play in the mud as a child. Not wanting to lose against her again, Pilie takes the lead and inadvertently gets a leech on her back, causing her to panic.

At night, she visits Unit 907's tent and sees Mismis sleeping soundly despite the situation. Pilie commends Mismis' iron will, but Unit 907 tells her she's overestimating their captain. The next morning, she brags to Mismis that their training yesterday was too easy. The instructor overhears her, so he has her demonstrate today's drill by cuffing her arms and legs so she can be dragged away with a car. She does double the distance than everybody else.

On the final day, the soldiers wait for extraction at the bottom of a cliff. However, the instructor informs them that the helicopter will be arriving at the top instead, so they must climb or they'll be left behind. Pilie challenges Mismis to one last race, but her impatience causes her to slip and almost fall if not for Mismis catching her. When she asks why, Mismis replies because she's a friend, causing a happy Pilie to admit defeat. However, their rivalry is quickly reignited when Risya In Empire appears from the helicopter and ignores Pilie to embrace Mismis.

In the Nebulis Sovereignty, Rin informs Alice of the bootcamp, but she isn't interested. She then wonders where Iska could be, as it would be too much of a coincidence for him to be at the bootcamp.

File 03

Renovations are happening at the women's barracks, and even though HQ gives them money for a luxury hotel, Nene and Mismis stay in Iska's room to pocket the money. And since Risya was planning on staying with Mismis due to the construction noise, she ends up at Iska's place as well. The girls then start decorating Iska's already small room. Mismis with plushies, Nene with electrodomestics, and Risya with gym equipment. Because there's no space left, they hang around Iska's bed and play a card game.

The girls lose, so they are in charge of making dinner. Since they are unable to make anything, Risya treats them with high-grade meat and alcohol. Things become chaotic when Nene accidentally drinks beer, as all three girls are now drunk. They gather around Iska while Nene and Mismis start hugging him. Risya starts a pillow fight, but Mismis accidentally hits the emergency alarm. Armed soldiers rush to Iska's room and misunderstand the situation, so he's charged with sexual misconduct. The charges are eventually cleared up.

File 04

As they do every month, Millavair presents Alice with a list of prospective candidates to meet with, as she is worried about her daughter's romantic life. Alice complains but listens to her mother's request nonetheless. She notices that there are a lot more proposals this month, so Rin reveals that a skimpier swimsuit picture of Alice was made public to the applicants, irritating her. The second princess meets with the candidates and tests them by dropping a block of ice on their heads, as they must be strong enough to protect her, but they all get knocked out and fail.

Alice meets with the Queen to argue that the tradition is outdated, which Millavair agrees with, so she promises to stop if Alice can find a boyfriend. The princess thinks about her requirements and realizes Iska fits all of them, so she decides to trick her mother with a picture of Iska's back that Rin took while in Ain. She convinces her mother by telling half-truths: they didn't walk together because of their difference in status (he's an Imperial soldier), she has her heart set on him as a partner (in battle), and they ate together (coincidentally). The queen is overjoyed and is ready to build the wedding venue and inform the journalist, but Alice stops her.
