Talisman is the head of the Hydra family, one of the three royal families in the Nebulis Sovereignty.
Appearance[]
Talisman wears a dignified suit that complements his extraordinary physique. He has deep, chiseled features and immaculate silver hair, giving him the impression of a man in his prime despite his age.[2]
Personality[]
Talisman is a composed man. Even when he spoke of Vichyssoise's failure, his tone showed no signs of anger or anxiety.[3] He is also very cunning, as he and his family pretended to be loyal followers of the Queen, while secretly conspiring against her. He is also shameless when he has no qualms of having Kelvina to experiment weaker Astral Mages in order to give them inhuman power.
History[]
At some point, he adopted Vichyssoise into the family.
Because the Hydra family played the role of the loyal followers perfectly, no one suspected that they had secret ties to the Heavenly Empire. Their pact began with Talisman's predecessor and the Eight Great Apostles, both of whom found use in the Great Star Calamity.[4] Talisman himself believed that the Empire's power was needed to reach the planet's core, which would've been impossible under Millavair's rule.[5] He and the other Hydra has close connection with Kelvina Sofita Elmos when aiding her to seek out weaker Astral Mages for experiments.
Synopsis[]
Volume 5[]
When Lord Mask was singled out as the main suspect for the attempt on the Queen's life, the Hydra family stepped in to mediate between the Zoas and Lous. With Millavair's approval, Talisman put Vichyssoise in charge of "finding" the culprit.
After Vichyssoise failed with the assassination of Sisbell, Talisman invited Elletear to morning tea, and they discussed the future of their plans.
Volume 6[]
Before the Imperial raid on Central State, Talisman gave them the blueprints of the palace. Using their attack as a cover, he sent members of the Hydra family, disguised as Imperial soldiers, to capture Sisbell at the Lou family villa.
He also showed up at the mansion, claiming to have been sent there by the Queen. But Jhin sees through his deceit and identifies him as the mastermind behind all of this. The boy then distracts him long enough for Nene and Mismis to set off an explosion, allowing Sisbell to run away while Iska stayed behind to hold Talisman off.
He is perhaps one of Iska's biggest challenges thus far. Unlike other Astral Mages, Talisman purely fights using only his physical abilities, which are boosted by his astral power. He overwhelms Iska very quickly, causing the Imperial soldier to almost lose consciousness a few times.
Volume 13[]
A group consisting of Talisman, Mizerhyby, Vichyssoise, and Hydra soldiers all head off to assassinate Elletear at the planet's core. On the way there, Talisman tells Mizerhyby that they must not destroy the Great Star Calamity since it would mean losing all of their astral powers. After all, the astral spirits appeared on the surface because they were running away from it. Sooner or later, as the truth is revealed, all Astral mages will agree to keep the Calamity alive regardless of how they justify it to themselves. If possible, he would like to come to a mutually beneficial agreement with it, tame it even.
They eventually reach and attack Elletear with soldiers empowered by Mizerhyby's Glory, but they soon fall victim to Elletear's Requiem of the Stars. Talisman can barely resist and seemingly holds his chest in exhaustion. He tries to fight back and sinks his fist into her body, but she laughs at his pathetic struggle. However, he acknowledges that he can't beat her and reveals the syringe that he hid in his hand, overdosing her with more of the Calamity that mutated her in the first place. As the mutant witch begins to melt and lose her form, Talisman and Mizerhyby happily celebrate when suddenly Elletear grabs Talisman, telling him that they'll enjoy despair together. All Mizerhyby can do is watch helplessly and listen to Talisman's screams.
Abilities[]
- Waves: Talisman's Astral Power allows him to manipulate mechanical energy in the form of invisible waves. He can then turn that energy into acceleration, giving his punch enough force to shatter Iska's ribs just by grazing them. In addition, he can reach insane speeds by using waves to push him from behind, which is similar to running with a tailwind.[1]
Relationships[]
Though Talisman and Elletear are conspiring together, their goals are different. They speak with each other in a formal tone befitting of royalty. However, Elletear became a liability because her combability with the Great Planetary Calamity was too high, so he ordered her failed assassination. He would try again and seemingly succeed, but due to her regeneration, Elletear survives and presumably kills him.
Iska and Talisman are the same in the sense that they are both demons at the peak of power.[1] The two had endured years of grueling training to reach their current level of power.
